Obilot Attempts Gothicness. . .
It was a dreary, drizzly day in early March. To spice things up, Obilot had arranged for Portia to stop by for brunch. Obi had been mesmerized by Portia and her imagined adventures for the past year, and she very much wanted to impress her with her knowledge of all things "goth."
"Hello dear Obilot," beamed Portia as she arrived. She was dressed in chic but casual brunch attire.
"Oh," stammered Obilot. "I see that you have not worn your gothic apparel. But I have made such a goth-y brunch for you. . .with black and purple, and a special mug from Brussels with the Manneken Pis on it. He's very goth, don't you think?"
"But I suppose you think that I'm just the baby of the Bs. . .and that I don't know anything about the dark side of life. But I assure you, that beneath my gaiety, I know of many sad things. For instance, I know that March can seem to last forever, and that the sun feels as if it is hidden for all time." Portia reassured little Obi. "It is a magnificent brunch Obilot. I can see that you've mixed the bitter with the sweet. How very goth of you."
Obilot cheered up immediately (as was, after all, her nature.) "Here, Portia," she exclaimed. "You wear the cape and I'll wear the hat. Don't you look pretty? And gothic? You know, these come from Paris. Paris is very goth, n'est-ce pas? They have the Hunchback of Notre Dame there, and a place called Pere Lachaise where my favorite singer, Edith Piaf, is buried." Portia let Obilot chatter on happily as she settled in, cape and all, for a lovely meal.
The next day the sun rose brilliant in the sky. Perhaps the Winter would soon be over? Portia wore Obilot's cape one more time, and dreamed of Spring. . .
